Homenetmen London's Womens Basketball team was formed in 2001, with its main goal being to provide support to young Armenian women in health and well-being, as well as cultural unity. Since its formation, the club has made positive contributions to society, and has gone on to win prestigious Pan-Armenian European Tournaments for several consecutive years.

From the beginning of 2015 the team reformed to follow in the footsteps of their predecessors, with the ambition to win international titles as the team improves and goes from strength to strength. So far, membership has doubled to 28 in less than a year, with a range of players aged between 11 and 30.

In its efforts to offset the costs of its own existence - including court fees and kit costs - the team has undertaken a variety of fundraising activities which have enjoyed much success. Raising over £1000 to date through face painting, cake sales, raffles, merchandise sales and car washes, the team's most recent venture was a lavish dinner and dance.

On October 10th the Navasartian Centre played host to the fully-booked event. This was an opportunity to thank all existing supporters as well as to attract new ones, but to also formally introduce themselves and their team to the community as a unit. The event was hugely successful, with nearly 130 attendees supporting the team and Homenetmen. In an evening of food, entertainment and dancing they showcased their talents - basketball aside - by playing the piano, singing Armenian songs and performing traditional Armenian dances. The hard work and team effort resulted in a considerable amount of money being raised to put towards their target of playing on an international platform. The event also strengthened the bond and sense of cultural pride within the team. All of the guests thoroughly enjoyed the evening and commented on how impressed they were with the food and entertainment on the night.

The team would like to give a special thanks to everyone who attended for their support; we are extremely proud of our team for such a huge success. Our determination to win in Europe is bigger than ever, watch this space for future events!
